I know the 5th gear is the weak link in our transmissions. I'm presently installing an AAZ diesel and a newer DFP tranny in my 1981 Caddy and was wondering what everyone is running for oil? I plan on Redline and possibly Lucas additive. Any suggestions for getting the very best lubrication for my new tranny?

I run the redline, definately shifts better, especially in cold. Never tried the lucas stuff. Is it good?

This is what a good diesel or gas engine will do to 5th gear on a straight pull. Has anyone heard of a fix for this, or a shop that might offer better quality gears?

A TDI tranny, if it would fit is rated to take much more power from the factory. That is about he only good fix I know of :( Maybe a cryo treatment and swaintech treatment of 5th gear would help, but I have no data to support that.
