Greetings - lots of good information here - thanks guys!
Here is my question. I have an 86 Vanagon syncro with a blown
1.6TD.( overheated due to poor weld job on power steering/alternator bracket by previous owner or his lackies)
I was able to pick up a low mileage 1.6TD Eco-diesel locally for a transplant (the price was right or I would have held out for a 1.9). I have ordered a vanagon turbo diesel injection pump with boost enrichment. I will be installing an external oil cooler and inter-cooler as well as boost and exhaust gas temp gauges. Should I keep the Eco-diesel turbo or should I use the larger vanagon turbo off the old engine? I have both - the old engine was set up with a non-turbo injection pump. What can I expect with the new pump and the different turbos?
Thanks
Mark

I have no personal expirence but i would go with the ECO turbo. Better low RPM boost. Everyone on here seems to feel like that it seems. At least for a big vanagon.

k14 all the way..
never look back
k24 / t3 is way too late spooling

yeah, or even a K03-003 for that big beastie. I have a k03 on my passat. instant spoolup and loads of torque.

I would think for a big heavy syncro vanagon a larger slower spooling turbo would be better, like a K03 plus a little more fuel?
I have no I dea, I know for my Jetta I want a K14 but, I am not drag racing with it, just a daily driver.
BTW: where are you located and what are you doing with the dead engine? :D

Thanks everyone!
K14 it is!
