It says that it fits all vw except diesel. it is not for diesel applications.
I don't get it. The filter fits! there should be no reason that it wouldn't fit on under the oil cooler either.
maybe it's their cheap oil hoses??? but gasser oil gets just as hot as diesel oil right? I'm at a loss here... anyone have any input?
thanks

Unless they are talking about the TDI which has the filter on top. I dunno, any pics?

it says on the box all vw 4 cyl watercooled except diesels.
are they discriminating or something? if i put this on my diesel will it explode? j/k
i will get some pics up soon. only reason i bought the kit was because i hate how the filter is on an angle... the oil will leak out as soon as the filter is unscrewed, making a big mess :(

I think it's cast, instead of being cut from billet aluminum like their high-performance gear.
Probably it would be fine, but it's a Cover Your Ass warning to protect them from lawsuits.
Try it and let us know...

Are the threads on the diesel filter the same as the gasser this might be the issue if they are not. The diesels use a different filter part # than the gassers do they not. I can't see how a housing and some hoses are going to be a problem if they don't leak and they don't cause a restriction what would be different. Cheers Dan

All the gas engines use a smaller Bosch 72150/ Mahle OC47 style small body filter. All the diesels (excluding the MK3/MK4 TDI's) use a Bosch 72174/Mahle OC51 big body filter. The diesel filter allows for 1/2 a liter more oil, the threads are identical. Every turbo gas motor (8v/16V) I've built always used the diesel filter for extra oil capacity.

i'm liking the "cover your ass" deal... the oil does get pretty hot, but there shouldn't really be any issues... right?
the filter mounts up no prob. i've heard of vw recommending diesel filters on their 1.8T's for more oil capacity and better filtering... only makes sense!
but i will definitely try this on my ride and see how it goes. i will be using the new amsoil ea filters for even better filtering & flow.

the worst oil temps ive ever seen is the middle of summer and it was like 95 deg. f
hope i dont confuse you,the oil temp got to 110deg.C
usually when its a little cooler out i see from 80 to 100 deg.C depending on how hard im driving it
i still want a thermostatically controlled oil cooler for sustained beating sessions

Easy. Just take a big flat screwdriver, (or a punch) and jam it in the lower corner of the filter before you take it off. Oil drains out the hole in the filter, no mess! :D
I cant wait for my TDI setup. Filter up top, with a pela oil extractor I can change the oil without jacking it up or even reaching underneath. :)

princess auto has a nice oil extractor on sale for around $60 i think... it is ran by air too :)
i wish there was a way to incorporate the TDI filter system with the old... old style filters are so bulky :(

I doubt your adapter is much different from mine. I got hoses made up from hydraulic hose, and I haven't had any problems with it. I bet my oil has been hotter than almost anyone elses with 250+ H2O temps. I do have 2 oil coolers however. My oil coolers came with fairly thin hose, which I had to use, and they have been fine too.

the hoses are pretty big, i would say they could hold around 1/8 of a litre of oil just the two of them... maybe more??? yesss extra oil capacity
o well... i'll be the guinea pig and try this out. i will be mounting it right to the frame rail probably, or even raise it up behind the rad fan for a semi 'oil cooler'
