First post here guys, lots of great info. I have to put a new head gasket on my Jetta, and found a site called VOLKSWAPARTS.COM that has alot of parts and tools on it. I was wondering if this is a very good place to use to order parts from, or if you all might have a better suggestion. Thanks-Nicholas

*sniff sniff*
smells like a shameless plug. At least it's not porn! :P
-
Maaaaaan, I sure wish there was a website like that one or like Rockauto that's based in Canada...
-
Hey thanks for the support for a new member there all knowing DR.Diesel! I blew a headgasket on my '89 Jetta with 240,000 + miles, and found this place when i was surfing around for the tool kit and parts to repair it. I thought maybe there would be a few people willing to help a guy out with some information as to the reputation of the aforementioned company. When searching I ran across it and several other .com names that appeared to be the same site. I didn't know if it was a company that was just trying to take advantage of their advertising buck or if was just another site that takes your money with no delivery of the product. So, if ANYONE else has any input on the question I posted, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again-Nicholas
-
My apologies to our sarcastic new member. We have been inundated by first posters advertising all sorts of junk, and my anti-spam gun has a hair trigger these days...
You have to admit, if you were the owner of that company, your post here would attract your site a good number of hits!
Good luck with your gasket change. The search engine on here will yield good results to just about any question you have, as well as input from other members, even suspicious pricks like meself.

Lotsa parts at good prices on that site.
So why is contacting them such a secret? Can't find an address or so much as a phone number before they ask for my credit card #, that's a little frustruating
Thanks anyway, I like to know who I'm dealing with. In Canada I'll continue to order from Brian Harrison @ Roseland.
In the US there are a good number of options.

Dug up some more info.....
His ebay ID is prothe http://stores.ebay.com/prothe Tons of feedback but 24 negatives in 12 months..
I found his name mentioned on TDI Club. Looks like he sells cheap Chinese clone parts hence why it's so cheap.

Dr.Diesel-apology accepted, I guess I could have been a little more open to that point of view. I guess I was just a little aggravated when I came back hoping for some helpful input to my query, but got a comment that probably diverted some good answers instead. Thanks alot guys for the input and research into this guys website, it seems a little too shady to do business to me. I have done business with dieselgeek for my wife's 2000 TDI Beetle, but they don't really seem to carry much for the NA 1.6 crowd. I will definately be checking into some of the suggestions posted on here and PM'd to me. Thanks again-Nicholas

I sent the guy an e mail about a few items I would like to purchase.
Lets see if I get a response.

Zukgod, did you actually get to talk to anyone, or was it all by e-mail?

I talked to him through e mail although he did send me his Phone # in case I want to talk to him.
I recieved my cam plate, reseal kit and timing set Sat.
It does appear to be chinese stuff but looks to be good quality.
I'll be getting it installed soo I hope.

Dan, would you please provide me with his phone number. I bought a plastic window from him for my car ragtop, but the quality was awful and I returned it but he discontinued emails and never refunded me. My email address is: ihub-asus at usa.net.
Thank you-
Victor

Let me do some digging and I'll get it to ya asap if I still have it.
Do you still have the invoice? I think it was on there..

Victor I attempted to e mail you this info but it bounced.
Yes I replaced the "at" with a @.
I just resent.
Please let me know the outcome.
I remember he was going overseas for a bit, maybe he is still gone?

The outcome of this is that Pete Rothenbacher did right by me and sent me the full refund. Communication was a bit tough at times, and it took nearly 45 days to get it, but with patience he comes through as a good guy.

Dan or zukgod1, would you order from this place again? I am consider ordering the Complete Injector Pump Timing Tools with Guage and a fuel filter. I have never seen an A2 fuel filter that cheap, almost a third of the price, I just wonder what kind of quality it is? I normally buy WIX filters for the quality and I can get them locally. Everything on that site is about half the price of anywhere else, but how is the quality?
-
I've ordered from him a few times. Quality is alright. What do you expect for the price? I would definitely order from him again.

Ya know I would.
I have a pending order right now for some replacement injector nozzles and a water-pump s well.
I bought a complete timing set from him with the belt, idler and tools as well not to long ago. Showed up in a timely fashion.
The stuff he has is ok as far as quality goes, it is a bit cheaper but seems to be fine though.
Go for it.

Well, I did, and saw that you had 1 completed purchase and one pending. Someone else had 'a few' and the only other was a unsatisfactory purchase that did result in a refund.
Just going by his website, the CC stays in my pocket as nothing there instills confidence. The 2 successful transactions here give me some hope.
I was wondering if there was anyone else here with something to add, as this looks like it could be a good source of cheap parts for all of us.
-
I figured ya did I was just being a smarta$$..
Anywho.
What I would recomend is dropping him an e mail or calling to make sure he has what your looking for in stock to prevent delays and go from there.
I dont think his english is extremely good though just for referance.
The e mails i get back are worded a bit strange sometimes.

Hey Pete,
Good to have ya here.

Welcome Pete. I really like that 1.6 TDI idea. Really nifty.
I can think of one thing that people would like to see, a manual VNT turbo controller. A few have built some successful ones on here, but most involve a complicated system of cables, springs and linkage. A plug & play VNT controller for those using VNT turbos on non-computer controlled engines would sell like wildfire. :)
Again, welcome and I'll be following that 1.6 TDI experiment.

Hey Pete,
Good to have ya hear.

Man no one corrected me... "Good to have ya here"

I would be intersted in finding some guinea pigs for my projects. I can supply the parts, if someone wants to test them. I'll post my ideas when I get the parts.[/quote]
hi Prothe,
I sent you an E-mail through your company e-mail a day or two ago? i did not know you had posted here? i'd be willing to test something for you in my caddy like your 1.6TDI motor or if it's a kit i can put it in one of my engines? however you want to work it let me know? you can give me a call so we can touch base on your projects! in that E-mail i sent to you i was also looking for injector shims so i can do some poptesting of injectors. i'm looking for a small starter set if possible? if you need my # i can PM it to you! I live in milwaukee wisconsin
thanks Duane

I received 1.6td brand new injectors from Prothe. Very good price, i must say.
-
I wish he offered NA injectors, I would buy those in a heart beat for $24. I am way past the 60,000 miles that libbybapa recommends they should be replaced.
-
HI, I am Volkswaparts.com
Of course my goal is to provide a much larger selection of parts. To this end, I will be out of the country attending the Essen Motor Show in Germany for a week after Thanksgiving.
What parts are you all dreaming of? Anything is obtainable. It's just a matter of how much work is involved to get it. One of these days I'll try to post a poll asking what the interest level is in certain custom parts like rims, new interior, updated bumpers, turbo conversions, etc.
I wonder what goodies that Pete found in Germany?

Anxious to hear..

Midwest Fuel Injection has NA injectors for $27 with a core. http://www.mwfi.com/dieselPage/VW_Diesel_Parts.htm
