Title: Elect. questions!
Post by: type2 idi on February 03, 2005, 09:59:01 am
Hello! I'm currentely putting a 1,9l TD engine from a 97 Jetta in my 77 westfalia, I've got a few issues with the lectricity, hope you can help me!!!

1- From the automatic glow time control module,  there's a green/grey wire (T18/18) going to (according to the Bentley) double connector, behind fuse/relay panel, A/C connection (T2e) I don't have A/C what should I do with this wire?

2-Is the Idle Air Control (N123) the item A on the next photo? If so the Bentley say that it supposed to have a black/yellow and a blue/red wires, mine have a black/yellow and a brown wires, still the same?

3-Where is the EGR two way valve (N161)? The bentley say it should have a brown/black and a black/yellow wires.

4-What are those, what is their functions? The one on the left got a black/white and a brown/black wires, the other have a black/white and a blue/red wires, those are the item B on the previous photo.

5- Finally On the next photo can you tell me where the red/black wire connect to? And what about that triple connector there's a black, brown and white/blue wires?

If any of my question relate to A/C and I can safely don't use it let me know!!!

Thanks!!!

I've heard if you want to do that engine swap, you need a computer from the 97 car, b/c the engine is computer controlled.  That's what I've heard anyway.

I don't need no computers because it's a IDI not a TDI!!! Thanks anyway!

Ignore it, it is part of the AC clutch cutout circuit.

Nope, item "A" is the crankcase vent heater element. It prevents the crankcase vent hose from freezing where it joins the cold intake air stream in sub-zero weather. See below for the rest of the story...

One of the 2 solenoid valves is the what the bentley (incorrectly) describes as the "idle air control solenoid". In reality it is a vacuum solenoid that connects to the vacuum actuator "E" on the pump. It boosts idle speed during cold start and AC operation. The other valve is "N161". It is used to open the turbocharger wastegate to lower pressure in the exhaust manifold and open the EGR valve. If you look at your motor it doesn't have an EGR valve. The complete EGR system was only installed on passats, the golf/jetta only got half the hardware. I wouldn't bother with it but you can hook it up if you like. It will open the wastegate at light throttle, other than that it does nothing...

The 3 wire connector goes to the vehicle speed sensor on the transaxle. it is used ony for the speedo and cruise control, not needed for engine operation. The red/black wire is for the starter solenoid.

Hope this helps...

I honestly don't know! I'll have to pull that plug on my car and see what quits...
