Title: 1984 Jetta 2 door
Post by: Patrick on January 30, 2005, 02:50:39 pm
Another gasser, daily driver getting parked in favour of a MK2 TD.  020 five speed, (AGS). 1.7l. Lots of spares, comes with what's left of a 4 door parts car too. Worst part of the car is the floor on the driver's side. I put the four snows on my new car, but would let them go with the car if the price was right. I need an extra set of 14" (or 15" :)  ) rims and tires for a MK2. We have a pair of 92 TD's and 3 sets of rims, I want four. Anyone got something good to trade, or a cash offer? I'll try to post a picture or two later. IF you buy, I'll deliver within an hour or so (as long as I get a ride home! :)  )  [email protected]  519-695-3711

remember, I think of this as a parts car. Good struts/springs, fresh clutch, new muffler, AGS tranny, all the glass is good (although the windshield is getting pitted) etc.

Those are factory two piece hubcaps on steel wheels, not bottlecap cast (although I have a set of those!)

How much do you want?....Does it run, if it does why do you refer to it as a parts car ...looks pretty good.

:D  I used to have a car just like this. I sold to a friend of mine when it developed various mechanical problems. He patched it up and drove it for another 7 years. I thought it was on its last legs then. Amazing what a little elbow grease will do. I notice it's missing a rear door handle.

Thanks Max! Believe it or not, it's only been four years! Since when has this thing ever has a rear door? (private joke!)
As for "parts car",Yes it runs, drove it everyday until I put my new(er) Jetta TD on the road friday. It's still plated, and I wouldn't be afraid to drive it halfway across the country if I had to. The floor on the driver's side is the worst part, but I bet a half a day with a sheet of steel and a mig would more than put it back together. The trunk lid is rotten along the back edge, (but I have a spare) and there's a really crude patch job around the windshield (mar glass and spray paint 4 years ago).  Something's not right with the cold start, either there's a bad relay/sending unit for temp, or the backflow preventer in the fuel pump doesn't work. The car starts great cold or hot, but let it sit for twenty minutes and cool off, and I have to use my 10 minute sunday morning fix of a spring loaded switch to a hot wire on the cold start injector. I hope max doesn't remember what I paid! Like I said, I'm open to offers, But I'd let it go in a heartbeat for 400! Need a set of 14" rims and snows for the newer car, so I'm open for trades...............

Did I mention this thing's got a sunroof?

Ya that's a good tranny for a diesel, 100 mm flanges and .75 5th.  I wish I could take it right now!   Heck, you hardly ever see a 2-door jetta anymore.

Wait a minute, bellhousing says AGS, but someone put 90mm flanges on it when they put it in my 84 jetta parts car! Forgot to mention that. Thanks!

ummm, AGS trannys come with 90mm flanges.  So do AOP, AEN, ASF and 4S trannys.  100mm flanges can be found on 2Y, ACD, AGB, ACL, 9A, and AON trannys.

yup, your info is wrong.  I had to get a flange for my 88 Jetta (AGS) so I went to several junkyards looking for 100mm flanges.  I found some and bought one.  Took it all apart, and what do you know, flange doesn't fit the driveshaft.  So I went to the VW dealer and got a print out of the parts list with the trannys and the flanges that they have.  Found out that all AGS trannys have 90mm flanges, as do the other trannys I listed.  So I had to buy a 90mm flange (couldn't find one in the junk yard).  Other option was to replace my driveshafts on both sides.  If you ever find yourself in need of a flange and you have one of the trannys I listed with 90mm flanges, do yourself a favour and measure the flange before you go out shopping for a new one.  You might be surprised.

Well hell, my ETKA says that the AGS has a 90 mm flange- Guess I need to take the time to check my resources instead of taking the easy way out by looking things up online.  :P  Well, I KNOW that my 4k has 90 mm flanges, I put seal kits on both of them!  :D

Um yah, it's a good deal on a 2-door jetta!  Someone buy it!  :)

Due to popular demand, lots of pictures! I pulled the seat out and peeled back the rug to take the pictures of the floor. Parked it over snow , so the white is the holes. deliberately showed all the bad stuff.

Car is gone, drove it to woodstock yesterday before I pulled the plates. I'm going to miss that car!! New owner (who showed up in a golf, and had a mark one jetta in the drive, along with a mark 2 Jetta) plans on patching up the floor and getting some more miles out of the old girl!

Still have a few good parts on the four door, back struts, some body panels, all glass except the windshield. free if you come and get it until I turn it on it's roof and drag it into the back of my pickup for a trip to Zubick's (scrap yard).

He's a gas guy all the way.  I did get a nice set of 15" bbs snowflakes with two good tires (and two fair to poor) for the car.
