Hi got a prob hope you can help!
Got a 1.6td T3 (T25/Vanagon) It ran great, bit of smoke but recon the fuel had been turned up.. serviced engine new cam belt etc, timed engine with dial gauge.. won't start.. no fuel at all! Check timing seems OK!?!
So get another pump off of a GTD put it on, it starts! great! but have to change pump top as it's different.. now get loads of black smoke.. i changed the governor arm.. more black smoke!! grr should i just of changed the governor capsule??
First question is why did the first pump stop working? seems crazy!
2nd.. whats the differences between the TD and GTD pumps and what if anything i should change?
3rd I have the injectors and intercooler from the GTD which i haven't fitted yet, would fitting these make any difference to the smokeing running of the engine??
any help appreciated

well the GTD runs more fuel to create its stock 80hp. the intercooler is a really good idea, otherwise it will smoke (like you described)
alternatively you can just dial down the fuel screw, or even the starwheel under the LDA lid.
not really sure why your pump stopped working... if it was sudden, then it was probably just the fuel stop solenoid, or it lost its prime from a leak. (it would have taken a few minutes of cranking to re-prime itself, or if it was really dry, it would never have primed itself!!)
