Title: what are you guys doing for a breather setup
Post by: Justin on July 05, 2007, 04:39:51 pm
like the title says what are you doing for a Turbo Crankcase setup?

I have a TDI with the breather thing for the valve cover but I think that I need a breather between that and the crankcase

thanks in advance

I'm all stock. It seems to work just fine for a healthy (and even not so healthy) engine

what is stock exactly? I ran the hose from the crankcase to the breather deal on top of the valve cover, when I shut the engine off I can hear the pressure slowly releasing and I think that I need to let the crankcase breath more

Stock is from the top of the VC to the intake hose

I must have an unhealthy engine, it's got 188,000 miles on it.  When I attach a hose from my valve cover to the intake plenum it blows my oil dipstick tube out and starts to spew oil. So I ran a hose from the valve cover to the back of the car.  I have more smoke coming out of the tube than I do the exhaust.  Is their anything I can do  or should I just run it.

 Sounds like an A2 NA.
 Did I guess right?
If so drill out the restrictors in the intake manifold.

Yes, I put my car in my sig but it's not showing on screen.  91 jetta NA with a 85 golf na solid lifter engine.  The car gets up and goes ok I can do 75 80 on the highway and pulls uphill pretty good. Probally needs rings huh.

yep i got a hose from the lower crankcase to the top valve on the cover, sorta like stock, just different  plumbing,i couldnt use the factory lower hose,so i used that clear braded vinyl home depot hose, like 1.25 inch
i got a tdi(m) too....
then i ran a 3/4 inch hose out into the left wheelwell near the steering rack
since i got totalseal rings(lol) i dont smell nasty fumes

The vent on the crankcase must be a Turbo Diesel thing cause there isn't one on my NA

My 97 TD has the lower crankcase vent which I covered and just run a piece of hose from the valve cover and it hangs down by the steering rack. No oil dots on the back of the car. No oil in the intake.

earlier na's with the big ugly vacuum pump, have a fitting on the crankcase for a breather hose to the vacuum pump
swap in a later style vane pump, and voila, you have a spot for a breather
although it isnt the biggest fitting, itll help
trevor,,thats supposed to be a yuengling bottle
