Title: Rabbit Rebuild Kit?
Post by: vegfuel on July 02, 2007, 10:29:58 am
Hey Everyone,

this summer I finally plan on rebuilding my 81' N/A diesel Rabbit after timing the engine and adjusting the IP all the time. I have been looking online for rebuild kits and came across the Volkswagen Parts Place in MI where they sell 1.5, 1.6, and 1.9 liter diesel rebuild kits. The kit I want is about $500 plus shipping. However, when the gentleman asked me what type I wanted I was stumped. The optional kits are for hydraulic lifters and mechanical lifters. My question is, isn't a common Rabbit diesel a mechanical head and lifters? Also, is this a reasonable price for a rebuild kit or is there a better place? Thanks

Yeah a rabbit diesel should be mechanical unless someone swapped the engine.

Hard to tell if 500$ is a good price without knowing what is included in the kit.

better to confirm that the engine is indeed mechanical, as it may have been swapped at some point.

also check out vwdieselparts.com, I think that jack has a complete kit with all of the machine work done for around 900 which is really good and everything is there, VW parts place in mi has gotten things mixed up for me in the past, I would use vwdieselparts over vw parts place any day of the week

later

i stopped using parts place in michigan about 10 years ago
after many screwed up orders and cv boots that crack apart in a month
thats because they are 10-15 years old when they sell them to you
little stuff like that ,heh
crappy packaging happens too, which meant many parts recieved already damaged
cleanin cv grease out of wheelwells +brakes+wheels isnt fun
im proud to say,i havent had  to order stuff from them in years
