Hi to everyone :)
This is the first time i post here so please bear over with me :)
I have recently changed the timing belt and valve seals on my 1.6 d Golf II, at the same time i got hold of a turbo kit for my n/a motor and of course i mounted this :) The engine starts up and runs fine even when revving it, but when driving and stepping on the accelerator the engine gives off a strange metallic knocking sound, this sound wears off when the desired speed is reached. I am currently running 0,6 Bar boost. could anyone please help me find out what this is?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Brumble :)

i don't know if this applies, but my transmission makes some weird noises before it hits 2k rpm or so...

Hi,
Thanks for the answer, but i seriosly doubt this sound is coming from the tranny. The reason being that I have been using this tranny for a long time, and I have never had any issues with it. Any other ideas what it might be?

try double checking your timing. did you use the timing instructions from the Bentley? hopefully it isn't a valve just barely smacking a piston
mine also made a weird noise like that... but it goes away when warm and since i put in 5w50 oil. almost sounds like a valve is sticking... she still runs good though!

hydraulic or solid lifter head? Could be a sticky lifter.

Hi.
Thanks for your answers. Have just double checked my timing and it was ok :) My engine has the letters CR stamped into the block, somewhere on the web i found this to be a solid lifter. How would I go about to check the lifters?

you need a feeler gauge to measure the clearances, then buy shims and voila. a bentley manual at this stage is invaluable.
