I will be doing some general maintenance in the very near future (thanks to a steadily worsening headgasket...) and am left wondering about lifters.
I know that the later AEG (mk4 2.0 8v gasser) engine has lighter weight lifters (~50g vs ~80g), and these are a direct replacement for other gasser engines (1.8 8v, 2.0 8v, 16vs and vr6).
I also know that all of those gasser motors use the same lifter as my 1.6 NA diesel.
So, in theory, the lighter lifters would fit in my head.
My questions:
Would there be any adverse effects to using a lighter lifter?
Would there be any benefits (other than the massive ~0.5 lbs weight savings :D)?
Has anyone done this here, and have any experiences to share?
Thanks in advance,
-d.

No, except price if they are more expensive.
Yes but only if you plan on high revs.
No idea if anyone ever used them in a diesel.
