Title: FS 93 Passat turbodiesel not running needs head loaded $1100
Post by: bigblockchev on June 23, 2007, 07:51:54 pm
I have too many projects & this one needs to go it is a 1.9L turbodiesel. I did the rings and bearings & timing belt on it but it  needs a head. Has power sunroof and AC, 5 speed. Compression was very good before it overheated. Body has no rust & is basicly straight. Car needs a bit of TLC but has potential. Quite rare. reply to danmdanm at gmail dot com

470kms, transmission seems fine, block has very little wear, head seems to be leaking into the precup area. Bought the car 3 months ago as a barely running project repaired several stripped exhaust studs which required pulling the motor. tested compression at 550psi on rear and 500 on front cyls should have known something was wrong much too high, head gasket blew & overheated turned out to be a 1 notch gasket , I replaced with a 3 notch gasket but head was leaking by now. rest of car is avg condition but worth saving. priced out heads today $725 bare ouch!! if you need anymore info let me know  are you in the lower mainland I seem to recall that username on the DOV board Cheers Dan

that compression is really good (for cold starting...)  did you measure piston protusion at all, or just stick on the 3 notch gasket?  winter starts will be a bit rougher if the motor specs call for a 1 notch...

Dave at pp said he could create a killer head for around $1500.   how much do you want for the car?

Yes it started exceptionaly well even with a weak battery. I did not measure the piston protrusion, I was searching for the most reliable scenario after the head gasket failure and figured the thickest gasket would provide that. Asking $1100 for the car. I am pretty sure that the previous owner used the wrong gasket resulting in the too high compression and compromised reliability. Cheers Dan

well if the pistons and valves didn't smack, i'd say that he probably used the right one.

didn't clue in on the price in your post subject title    $1100 is pretty cheap man.
