I picked up an 82 Rabbit NA last fall and had been working on it to get it roadworthy. Eventually, it got to cold to work on but I had a nasty fuel leak around one of the injectors and decided (angrilly) to leave it over winter planning on dealing with it when it warmed back up.
A sudden need to move to a new apartment required the car to be moved so I decided to crank it over a few time to figure out the leak issue. Amazingly, the battery was still in great condition and it cranked quite strongly. Again, fuel sprayed out of the #3 injector except that this time, I actually checked the the connection between the line and the injector.
DOHHH!!!!!!
Tightened it up, cranked it a few times, and she started right up.
I love VW diesels.
