Title: Looking for an easy way to ID an AAZ.
Post by: Barry W on June 18, 2007, 07:08:12 pm
I'm used to looking at 1.6TD's and I got an offer for a 92 TD engine out of a jetta that might be an AAZ. Whats a good way to tell if its an AAZ or a 1.6?

If it's a 92 it isn't an AAZ. The first model to use the AAZ was the late 92 passat, followed by the A3 body style jetta and golf in 93. The easy way to tell and AAZ is by looking at the valve cover. The AAZ has 3 bolts down the centre of the cover and none around the periphery. The older diesels all had (8?) bolts around the periphery.
