Title: 1.9 Heads. What is different about the valves by year?

So I am looking for my 1.9 head to complete my build.  Some of the replys talk about different valve, or valve stem sizes.  What gives?  Will one offer more over the other?  Is one more robust?  Will part availability become a problem in the US for one over the other?  Do any of these use TDI valves?
