so here is a pic of the worst injector (the end the fuel line hooks up to), the others are far cleaner. Is cleaning with a q-tip addequate here, what else could I do?

Waht about this fuel line? it is the dirtiest as well. Use some pipe cleaners then some compressed air mabye?

don't put a qtip, it will leave lint in there. put some atf in the line and compressed air till you are satisfied
-
Thanks.
On the lines I will try a combo of brakleen and compressed air, the brakleen straw should fit right in the line.
I'll use atf on the dirty injector(s).
-
and when you put them back on replace the fuel filter and fill it complete with atf
-
So the engine will run on ATF for a short time till Diesel gets there from the tank?
-
Ya, it should run just fine. :) I've heard that it's not a good practice on Direct-Injected engines but every now and then shouldnt hurt an IDI. A lot of old Diesel techs swear by that practice- not that it makes it right by any means though...

The atf's cleaning agent works good on the injectors. ATF isn't good on Direct Injection engines because it plugs up the cat, so if you IDI has a cat don't use the atf.
