Title: Can you add an aneroid to a normal 1.6 pump?
Post by: red64chevelle on June 04, 2007, 05:32:37 pm
Just like the title states.  I am having problems finding a pump for my 1.6TD.  The pump on it is a regular one (w/o aneroid), and I would like to get one.  I already have a post in the classifieds that I am looking for a pump, but if anyone has a good source, or any info regarding converting the one I have, let me know.

I might even get both, just so I can screw around with one.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if I posted in your ad or just thought about it, I'll have a pump within the next month

I don't think you posted anything, but how much would you want?  Its going to be shipped to the States (zip code 02816).  I am hoping to get one before a month, but let me know anyway, if I don't find one by then, I'll really need it by a month from now.

Hi red64chevelle,

yes it can be done, you just need the complete lid off a Td pump, i did wonder myself, i managed to find an ebay diesel shop, they were shutting up shop and i managed to get a Td pump lid complete with aneroid pin and converted my n/a pump to Td.

if you trawl my pictures on my site i posted them here as im sure others had wondered if was possible too

good luck in your search tho!

Hillshy, did you have to recalibrate the pump in any way when you added the aneroid?

I can get a TD pump core no problem, but did you have to do anything else to the pump to it, besides installing it on the pump body?

This is really interesting! Seems like you (hillshy) didn't even pull the IP from the car?
I have a -92 AAZ eco, would the aneroid from an older 1.6 fit?
Is there any nasty surprises when you take the lid off, like springs that shoots out or alike?

no springs that shoot out per se, but one is connected to the lid on the N/a one.

Still, I think one would have to connect the lever from the aneroid and wouldn't it need to be recalibrated in some way?

Some one here may know..

Hey Bevboyy,

sorry man just noticed your questions.

The pump in question was a Td pump to begin with but it was an eco pump, so exactly the same pump as an N/A. The way the eco boosts is by running more air so they run lean. but once i removed the pump lid they are the same inside(well as far as i could see) the engine was removed from the car already, but i was able to run the engine on the ground as I made a temp test bed, it would reqiure some fine tuning but i can't see reason why swapping over lids would cause an issue. so go for it! you can always revert back if you are not happy with the results.

whilst I was doing the swap over, i have a true GTD pump with the lid removed and constantly crossed ref'd/checked/compared things between the two, doing this also made the GOV mod make more sense. my next job!
