Title: Swapping tilt wheel?
Post by: 6011 on June 03, 2007, 01:39:15 am
So I just got a '92 NA diesel jetta parts car. It has a tilt wheel that I was thinking of swapping in my '88 jetta. Has anyone tried this? It looks like the dash needs more room for the tilt wheel to go up but I am not sure. It also has cruise control but that looks to be a pain to swap in. Anyone tried that?

There is a thread on the tex that I was just reading last week about swapping CE1 wiring for CE2. There was some discussion about tilt column swaps also, VWVortex Forums CE2 Swap Thread (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=944232)

Basically it seems to be doable, either dash pad will work.

If for some reason you don't do it, I might be interested in a complete tilt swap for the 89.

Thanks for the link, sounds like it may be doable. I took off some panels and it looks like the column is riveted in place under the dash. Should be interesting drilling those out. I am hoping the turn signal and wiper switch from the 88 will bolt on to the 92 column. If I give up with it Ziptar I will let you know, though I am not sure that shipping from BC to Florada would be worth it.

Lol you should have just asked me for one

It is not riveted on, it will all unbolt.

I guess I should have.. The list was already so long though. Perhaps before you head out for school.
