Post by: bert on May 31, 2007, 11:20:24 am
Hi lads, can i ask the maximum piston travel on the idi 1.9AAZ and 1.6 TD's  i have my pump set to 1.0mm and it starts instantly, half a turn of the crank its running, well impressed, but can they be over advanced like a petrol engine so they pink? thanks in advance

I have my AAZ running now Bert, at 1.0mm too. Starts and runs fine... don't think you'd want it any more advanced though, so addftional advance through pump gizmos perhaps should be disabled (mine hasn't got starting advance mechanism) but has an economiser? that has 12V permanently connected

A diesel cannot technically "pink" because there is no fuel present in the combustion chamber until the moment of injection/ignition, so there is no possibility of the fuel pre-igniting.

It is possible to over-advance the timing but the symptoms will be reduced power, increased engine noise and high peak cylinder pressure. At 1.0mm I don't see there being any issues.
