Title: Trans noise
Post by: awcurl on May 28, 2007, 08:29:15 pm
I bought a project Jetta with a five speed trans. I was told that the trans had been changed out but since the axles weren't installed I couldn't try it out. I installed the axles and  whenever I depress the clutch I hear a grinding sound comeing from the trans. The trans shifts between gears while the engine is off but if I bump the starter while it's in gear it doesn't move the car. Could the problem be that they somehow installed the trans wrong or is the replacement trans bad? The trans only makes the grinding sound when the clutch is depressed and it doesn’t make a difference whether or not it's in gear or not. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds to me like that throwout arm is snapped or something... there was a thread about it a while back.
