Title: Waterpump, Alt, injector heat shield question

Hey there,
I was just down at the parts store looking to pick up a new waterpump and alt. for my 1.6td.  I was told that the Bosch 65 amp Alt is the same from 85 to 92, the only difference being with or without A/C.  Is that right?
Am I correct in thinking that the new Alt. will come without a pulley? My old Alt. is with A/C.  I will be ditching the A/C as it does not work.  WIll I need to buy a new pulley?

On the same trane of thought, how about the waterpump? I makes sense to go with new since the whole thing is apart.  I am not sure the exact year my motor is.  It was out of the car when I bought it.  It's a MF hydro from Canada.  Are the water pumps all the same through the mk2 years?  I seam to remember reading here in the past that there were some improvments made to it.  I was planning on buying the whole package, body and internals.  When we entered the search for the waterpump under 1985, it came up with vw # 037 121 010A  That number is also the same number for 93-98  jetta 2.0 .  Anyone have any info?

Parts guy could not find the injector heat shields # in his book.  Anyone happen to know what it is?  Is it the same for both the 1.6 and 1.9?

The non-AC alt is 65amp while the AC amp is a 90amp unit. Unless you are running a big stereo system, get a 65amp unit (you'll save a few bucks). The alt should come with a pulley.

There are many waterpump versions. The vw# you found is the part that replaced the older style waterpumps.

Thanks, so the Alternators in the 65amp range should all be the same?  What the heck is this thing I keep seeing about make sure I read some tech notice in the bosch reman catalog about the alt and wet weather?
Application notice #B-85???? :?

Do you happen to know what the difference in the " new improved" water pump is?

It made it across just fine, but I have pics of one that went in a slightly deeper spot and didn't. If you go the right speed, you make a bow wave with a corrosponding trough behind it that helps keep the water lower in the engine compartment. That means don't stop mid stream.  :shock:

The size of the hub and the number of blolts holding the pump together changed. The newer the better. Find one with a metal impeller, cheap pumps have a plastic impeller.

Ive done that before, but I got paid to do it from my uncle sam.

I'll go with the newer style h2o pump.  Anyone know what the bosch reman warning is about?

If you're going to delete the A/C compressor, you'll need a longer pulley on the alternator. A 2.25" or 2.5" pulley from a gasser should work, but will probably be too long and require you to shim out the crank and water pump pulleys (won't work if you have power steering). That's what happened on my Mk1 anyway, and I think the Mk2 alt-A/C bracket is the same.

AC and non AC alternators mount in different locations (AC sit above the bracket, NON AC hang off the bracket) and because of these the adjuster for the belt tension is in a different spot.

The 8 and 9 bolt WPs have the same bolt pattern IIRC. Just get what you can and it should bolt to your current housing
