Title: TDI(crank damage, bent valves?)
Post by: rabbit GTI/GTD on May 20, 2007, 05:06:58 pm
have a lead on a TDI, not to sure the year yet, i'm thinking a 99. the crankshaft gear bolt and crank is worn from what i was told and wont run, so, i'm nor familiar with tdi's, only idi's (as per why i'm posting here) , are the TDI's  interference engine to??, will the valves be bent like my 1.9 aaz did, lol. Even if the engine is done, the VNT turbo should be good for my 1.6, if i get the car. Thanks for now guys

I think almost every diesel ever made is an interference engine, except for Ford transit vans. Good luck.

thanks, my thought was that it may not hit the valves since the pistons are slightly dished in a tdi,

Old ford transits never bend valves.

Eeehh, that tek's mi bak!

I used to work on Transits, right laugh.

I did a few heads on them, they always seemed to stick to the block, remember one we had the engine crane on the head and the front wheels off the floor! the head only came loose when we jumped on the bumper!

Them flipping timing cover things that used to wear aswell, heh, memories.
I like doing timing belts on the 2.5 DI, just a few drill bits for the timing pins, brilliant, just *** slow!
