Dave,
Couple of quick questions.
Looks like people want to go in house here at the GTD index for a Girdle. You had spoke of making one and prepping the main caps. Could you elaporatr on the process. Would this alter the part number used for the ARP main Studs? DOnt want to buy a set if they will end up being too short.
What is the intake opening size of you new intake-From the intercooler.
Can any additions to the manifold be made for the use of propane? You know, like a preposistioned port that you have capped off?
With a cnc, you should be able to wip out some crank scrapers super easy. Might sell well. Just a thought.
Last one for now, Do you happen to have any of those flow numbers yet for the new parts? Perhaps individual, and then a set for the whole group put together--intake too a polished and ported head too the tubular manifold?
Thanks, Jim Shortill
Dave responded with:
Jim, basically the main caps have two machined surfaces on the top of the cap for the main bolts faces to tighten down upon, between the two surfaces there is a large non machined cast "hump". This hump needs to be machined down along with the already machined cap surfaces until there is one even plane for the girdle to clamp down on. This will most likely involve needing longer main studs, but I am not sure quite yet, I haven't done any specific measurements. As for crank scrapers if we made some girdles we would design the girdle so that it functioned both as a girdle and a crank scraper.
The inlet on the intake manifolds is 2.5". We can absolutely add extra bungs/threaded fittings etc at your request for extra cost.
We haven't made specific masters yet for all the different combos for the vw diesel heads and manifolds, but we are working on it. I will say that the stock 1.9 alh tdi head and intake manifold flows around 100CFM stock per port, we are over 140cfm per port with the new intake manifolds and head porting on those particular heads.
If you get the chance, post this PM up in that thread about girdles so we can gauge interest.
Dave

I'd be interested if it was cheaper than the other one i saw for $400. Its hard to throw a lot of cash at your "economy car".

Can any additions to the manifold be made for the use of propane?...
This has been played with a number of times by members that don't post here much anymore. There is very little to be gained in our IDI's with propane do to the high CR. You get very little in before it starts to pre-detonate, and will pop HG's and pistons in short order. Just a heads up. I can think of at least 4 people who were running it back on the old hostboard, even with some pretty trick varible rate controlers.

My version of main girdle:

Correct length ARP studs would be AM4.300-1LB. But it is custom order, not listed...
We have succesfully used 20x20x100mm blocks on main caps with 10mm longer 12.9 allen head bolts. Pic (http://www.kotinet.com/matti.farm/Audi/Moottori/118-1874_img.jpg)
I was told that girdle is not needed but I´d like to try it anyway.

So did you use the cap blocks first, and then try the girdle, or are they located under the girdle? What did you make the girdle out of?
Thickness etc...?
I don't think anyone can ever go wrong building a better stronger foundation. You can't build up if the foundation crumbles.

"Propane equals BOOM!" Thats a paraphrase
Can you think of any reasons that a port or somthing like it would be benificial to have on the new intake manifold?
Andy2, where are you on this one!
It would be nice to have some different locations to get girdles from. East coast, west coast, Usa, Canada.
Any of you Fabricators interested in brainstorming together and doing a joint build? Best of both worlds?
Who is interested in building some girdles crankscrapers for the group? Perhaps a limited run?
Who is interested in buying these items? Group buy perhaps?
What price range are people looking in for something like this?
100
150
200
250
300
350
400

Can't figure out how to add the survey to this post so just add on to the post.
Hey, does the oil capacity increase depending on how thick the girdle is?

I´m using cap blocks now. But I´m building another motor with steel rods etc, I´d like to use the girdle in that. This girdle will need a little thinner blocks under it. It is 10mm steel.

Water injection to cool your charge/EGTs down some more post-intercooler? Emissions concern, I'm lowering my NOx! :D

I'll take one of the Cheerleader Edition, please. :D

I'm not opposed to working with Bruce and Andy on anything, it would be fun.
