Title: Does the lock pin for IP always set TDC?
Post by: rallydiesel on May 15, 2007, 10:00:01 pm
Just curious, do the locking holes for the injection pump line up exactly at TDC? I'm just getting ready to tilt the pump forward so I have access to injector 2 and am wondering if the hole in the sprocket and the one in the bracket always align to TDC?

i didn't know the pump needed to be titled forward to get to injector 2?

My pump is very close to the engine. The LDA prevents me from getting a socket over the injector. I am going to tilt it forward and move it over one tooth so I can get at injector 2 and do a proper compression test.. Last time I had to take the pump top off and by that time the engine was cold

Nope, the alignment holes are only a rough guess at best.... actual timing is done with a dial gauge etc etc etc.

Most people would just scribe a couple of marks between the pump and the bracket so that they can move the pump back into position when they are done.  I usually just check the timing anyways with the dial gauge.
