Title: Turbo oil flow restricter???
Post by: stewardc on May 13, 2007, 03:28:30 pm
I understand you need to restrict the flow of oil to a turbo (Why, I do not know)?? Where is this flow restrictor and how big is it?
PS: I have a Garett T3 on an AAZ.

if there was no restriction, your turbo would leech all the oil pressure from the system.  another reason why oil drainage is crucial, since the turbo doesn't have full pressure.

if your turbo doesnt have one then go to mcmaster car and you can order brass ones that are 1/8, 1/4 and I think 3/8" NPT to go inline with your oil supply line, look up hydrallic flow control i think that the largest they have is . 055 and .062, I just ordered some last night

i'm considering using something like that for my bypass oil filtration system...  i don't want it to leech all my oil pressure, especially when driving nice and hard... which will be 50% of the time...

The restriction your refering to is the oil supply fitting that connects the oil line to the turbo. The fittings ID is sized to allow a calculated oil flow through the turbo.I've compared fittings from a T3 to a ko3 and they have the same ID's.

So whats the consensus? What size is good? I'm putting a VNT on my 1.6 and will be making an oil feed line from scratch. Also what size line? About 3 or 4 AN. With a 10 AN drain.

I think the small hole on your center section is the restrictor. I'd get a drain line at least the size of the larger hole.
