Title: junkyard turbo #4 blown, time for a proper turbo
Post by: optiks on May 01, 2007, 09:35:21 pm
hey guys i have a 1.9 td with some mods as follow

-JRC 8" new style Front Mount intercooler
-2.5" mandrel charge piping
-2.5" silicone reinforced couplers
-Garrett 1.6 td t3 turbo
-2.5" mandrel downpipe
-3" mandrel downpipe-back straight exhaust
-diesel injection pump modifications
-2.5" custom mandrel intake
-cone filter
-ACT Heavy duty clutch and ACT street disc
-Short Shifter

i have blown all four of my junkyard k24's and t3's and am looking for something better to support 22-28 psi of boost. can someone point me in the right direction to maybe a GT series turbo or something similar in specs to the 1.6 td T3 ?

the last 2 blew when a retaining ring on the center shaft failed causing the compressor wheel to shift and grind into the compressor housing.

what are my twin turbo options for boost down low aswell as up high in the rpm range

A GT20 is enough to but you into the bent rods / head gasket issues. Malone ran 150 - 175 whp with one, non intercooled.

Leave the junkyard turbo's at the JY. You have a clean car, it deserves a nice turbo. If you think you need more a GT22 will be capable of 200whp+
