Title: Head gasket question
Post by: vixentd on April 26, 2007, 09:08:08 pm
Just installed a head gasket on a 1990 1.6 diesel.  Torqued to 35 lbs then 45 lbs then 1/4 turn with the head bolts.  All i could do with a 25 inch bar.

Read the instructions on the gasket from German and it sounds like the want 50 nm and then two 90 degree turns. heat up and 90 degree more?

Can imagine this?

Use new bolts

Step by step:

1. 45 Nm
2. 60 Nm
3. 180 deg.
4. run engine +50 C
5. 90 deg.
6. 1000km
7. 90 deg.

If it is hot it will turn. I used a cheater bar but it did tighten all the way.

I sure hope so, as ARP's just get torqued to 80 ft lbs with their lube.
