Title: GTD Problems
Post by: MontanaGTD on April 23, 2007, 08:39:16 am
I'm currently rest up at home off sick from work for a month after a couple of operations on my legback and legs - so the GTD hasnt moved for a while. Just been out to it today to run it for the first time in ages, checked my water level - oil sludge on top of the water again. Checked the oil filler cap nice black oil no mayo. But on checking the dipstick it had thick mud sludge on the bottom of the dipstick and took a couple of dips to check.

I just had a new oil cooler, water cooler and timing belt done. I think there is still left over oil in the water system, what is the best way of cleaning it out? Ive tried coolant flush twice and its still coming through into the expansion tank. I've been told the best thing to use is a non-foaming dish washer tablet with the car on tickover and the expansion bottle top off, for 20 minutes or so. then drain it.

It now needs a new thermostat too, as its jammed solid, so it needs flushed through and maybe a good oil service too.

Anyone got any other ideas - Couldnt be the head gasket could it?

it could be the head gasket.. if you pressure test the coolant system, that should be a good indicator of whether or not it is the culprit.

i had same problems with my oil cooler when it went.  i wouldn't drive the car 10 feet unless i had to if the oil was sludging etc like yours is.  immediately drain the crap and put in fresh cheap oil.. maybe run it with one of those detergent additives... check it again and i would even drain it again just to be safe.

good luck! hope it's not your HG!

surely if it was the h/g it would go quickly? I've done over 33000 miles with this problem coming and going!
