I can build you a pretty badass head for $1600, or a still very good one for less. I can fix your crank too if thats what caused it.

What exactly does rebuilding a head require? Machining-wise and in terms of new parts? I am considering this too.

getting an oem one from vw, $1350 with core, crank didn't cause it, when changing the waterpump, a peice of metal that had fallen on the casing fell into the timing belt area, then i drove 30k.    it sounded a little different but i blew it off, then almost at work, it got way worse.  screwed a lifter, the cam, and gouged the head.  don't know about the bottom end yet

Aaron, why do you call me asking about parts and advice etc and than always end up having Jose make you decisions for you. I've been really helpful to you and I am not a fan of people using me so get bent.

normally, this means new valve guides, depending on mileage and wear, a valve grind depending on how wore, new valves and seats ground, cleaned up, to like new, milled to ensure flatness and smooth sealing abilities and assembled.

i work at a VW/Audi machine shop (Air Cooled Engines Plus) here in Ohio, we can do basic head and engine rebuilding and we do custom work including balancing, port work complete with flow bench numbers to name a few, but if you plan on doing anything performance wise, there are many more options, call John at 419-443-8987 between 10 am-6 pm, mon-fri for more info

It's called shopping around, determining your options.

i'm not using you, i simple decided to go with a factory rebuilt head rather than one locally, nothing against you, the factory one is twice the warrantee, and i trust OEM over aftermarket for reliablity.  Even so, i still didn't order the head from Jose, i got it through vm, as they were a better deal for the same product.  Don't get me wrong, your price was good, but i simply decided to go oem, jose didn't knock you at all.

and the downpipe? jose offered a better product, thicker piping, better quality piping, simple as that.

I work at a computer store, and we get people all the time asking for quotes and advice, I sell them on our products and tell them why they should buy our products instead of futureshop's.  It's just part of the business that not everyone will place the order, that's just the way it is.

On another note, at this time, jose can't find headstuds, if you'd like to quote me on a set, go right ahead, i will shop around as usual though.

Jose made a better down pipe? Are you joking, I have seen thats guys fab work, its nothing special, seems to spend his time grinding down welds. Do you know anything about the quality of piping Jose used? I don't think you know anything about mine. I understand shopping around and all but it just seems like I am giving you advice and stuff just so Jose can do it for you instead, and as you probably know Jose has a big problem with me.

Ok I'll believe that but I'd like to see what makes Joses down pipe better, because it just seems like that guy is out to get me.

Thats your problem. .3 liters too many. You better fix that.

I also would like to see Jose's piping. I had daves on my toolbox just to look at it for about 3 months.  It was real pretty.(Then I sold it because Dave had to design an exhaust manifold that I cant use it on) :D

Hey, what years are the 1.9 TD's? I want to order a metal headgasket but I don't know what years it was on.

The aaz was introduced in 93.  It was replaced with the AHU TDI after 97 in Golfs and Jettas and a little earlier in Passats I believe.
