Title: New Guy --- Pump bracket Question
Post by: AudiVWguy on April 13, 2007, 07:44:51 pm
Hi Everybody,
New to the list with a question about using a pump from a 1993 Vento (AAZ block?) on a 1.6 block. When its bolted on to the 1.6 engine the pully doesn't line up with the timing belt . Do I need the pump bracket from that engine to make the alignment correct? Any body else ran into this?
Thanks,
JB

i think you need to machine the bracket slightly...  i was going to try and fiddle to get a 1.9 TD pump to work on my car, but decided that i'd rather drive it right away since i needed it.  there was one guy who said his buddy got it to work.. so it is possible.

The problem is that this pumps shaft sticks out 9/16in farther than the old pump so the timing belt won't line up. You can't just use spacers on the bolts because it has to sit in the center hole to rotate for timing the pump. I need to know if the pump bracket has an offset to compensate for the longer pump shaft.

another problem is the actual injector lines... so im guessing he modified the ip sprocket.

it would be possible to move the sprocket inward, just need a good machinist to make it run true.  i considered this, but did not want to go into uncharted territory when i needed my car running.
