Title: tiny turbos
Post by: dieselpower on December 12, 2004, 12:28:33 pm
hey,

sorry to bother you with more turbo questions but......

does anyone have a turbo off a 1.9(either a k14 or K03?? whitchever is smaller) laying around that can take some measurements for me? i found the tinyest turbo yesterday(off a pontiac sprint turbo) anyway, can anyone tell me the inside diameter of the inlet and outlet ports on both the exhaust and intake side of the turbo?
thanks for the help

Mark

that sprint turbo was also rebadged as chevy sprint but the car is really a suzuki swift with a 1.0 3 cyl engine same as the geo metro (also a rebadged suzuki)

hey,
ya i realized i named it wrong after i submited it. but they are all the same so i didn't bother changing it. anyway, that was my idea, to build a twin turbo system with them. but the ports are soo tiny, it doesnt seem like they would flow enough air, but then again when i seen a k14 it was pretty small too.

A K14 is massive compared to the K03. I have a couple K03's lying around as well as a garret T2 from an early AAZ. I can measure them for you if you can wait a day or so...

Yes, both K03's are from AAZ 1.9 turbo diesels. The T2 was used on early passat 1.9TD's.

just so i understand how  twin turbo works, do you need a modified exhaust manifold?  I'm assuming that all 4 cylinder exhaust ports are connected to both turbos.  Or are the two turbos separate?  Two cyl per turbo??

I also imagine the benefits are faster spool up times, and bigger boost.  Any downsides other than cost?

Only twin setup I ever saw was on a Cummins truck engine, 855 ci. They were stacked, (in series, not parallel).
