Title: My new toy. (G rated)
Post by: Dr. Diesel on April 05, 2007, 08:59:26 pm
just picked this badboy up:

clip the probe onto #1 (or whichever) injector line, hook it up, attach inductive timing light to the loop on the board, and voila! You can time your diesel engine like a gasser, by degrees, instead of mm. Also features a digital tach reading, and a bunch of cool other things.

byebye dial indicator.

(off you go to the back of the tool drawer )

 :D

Where'd you find that neat toy?

I really need something like that. I'm almost positive that my actual timing is off even though my dial indicator says its spot on

how much would you charge to do timing??? i wouldn't mind getting mine bang on!

btw, i wonder if it would be possible to use the TDI sensor's to make a timing system... like the wire for the 3rd injector, and the crank sensor?

Would that system help with people who have swapped a TD engine into a different make vehicle and used the ACME adapter plate to use the non vw transmission?  I though I read somewhere that was aproblem?

theoretically if you find TDC on the crank, you can time the engine properly.  with dr. diesel's new toy *drool* he can time the engine to within new spec because that machine will allow you to time the engine by actual injection.  old tired pumps have a delay in the injection, so mechanically timing it by the book doesn't cut it.

very precise!  so how much $$$ :)

yeah...... the only issue being that there is no information as to what degrees equals what mm. I'll need to make up a specs list using an engine with a new camplate in it's pump. Smokeydub, it looks like you just saved yourself A MILLION DOLLARS!! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!

We'll use your new Giles pump to figure out those specs, then I can charge eveyone else A MILLION DOLLARS!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!! to check their timing.

As said above, if you can find a definite TDC mark, you should be able to time the pump by either method.

Title: timing light

I was playing around with a few flywheels and it looks like 50mm=24degrees.
That was measured on the flat area running around the flywheel, above the timing mark.

The only thing better then buying one of those Tach-n-Times your self is telling your boss about it and the company orders it. Now I have one to use and I didnt have to spend a dime.

Sweet Doc...that info would be great....and I promise to give you a useage fee if I make money with it...:D
