Title: Total Seal Rings
Post by: Rat407 on December 08, 2004, 07:12:37 pm
Has anyone used Total Seal rings in there 1.6 TD?  I'm looking at putting them in my engine and just wanted some true to life story on them.
Thanks

I have installed rings by Hastings...a more modern design of the compression ring...being thinner then stock and able to push against the cylinder wall tighter...the oil control rings really work good also in cutting down the oil consumption...so well that I drove from Detroit to Key west and back again on 1/2 a quart of oil..and these rings were installed into a tired motor...once again  new life

What sort of cylinder prep (type of honing) did you do on this engine?

the cyls were still narrow enough that when useing the new rings, the ring gap was back to within the lower end of "gap specs"...I simpily used a fine quality sand paper to scuff up the walls...60,000 later, and I am still doing fine...I am now useing a little oil between changes....
