anyone have a 3" exhaust? i found a cheap source of mandrel bends and tubing and i want to step up my exhaust off my turbo and the outlet is 2.5". I already bought a few 90s and it should fit without any problems but im wondering if its just overkill? ive also read that 3" will not clear the rear?

93 passat with a ahu, t3 from a d24t. im doing dp and all with 3"

My Volvo came witha failrly big pipe, and it for sure spools quicker when the muffler falls off. 3" is probably overkill without serious pump mods...I bet 2.5" without a muffler would work just as good.
That said, I think I just got the last peice of 3" I need for my D24T.
What boost are you getting out of that T3? Mine is MBC'd at 1 bar. and sometimes I wonder. :?:

i haven't even started the motor yet, im still fabing an adaptor plate to bolt the turbo to my mani and mocking up my dp, ive got a few mods done to my pump like gov mod, 10mm head and i added a pump top from a 1.6 instead of the fake aaz one. what im really wondering is if there would be any ill effects to using 3" besides price? but at 15$ per 90deg bend and 40$ per10foot section of pipe its hard to go wrong?

well i went ahead and went 3" anyways, after cutting off the mess the po had on there i laid the pipes side by side for compairison.

grand total for everything was 309$ and the most expensive part being the stupid flex pipe from canadian tire for 120$ still not bad for a full 3" exhaust.
3" flexpipe

Was the time to change it I think
-
yeah, 4 clamps in just over a foot hahah it was a mess
-
anyone know where the best spot for the flex pipe? my other car had 2, one in the down pipe and one before the cat? i wasthinking of putting it right where the cat was on the old pipe cuz the stupid heat shield makes it alittle tight for the downpipe spot. also i was looking at the passenger dps and they llok like they have the flex in the same spot?
-
i figure i will need a 3 inch system for street running if it runs all the way to the back
iwas just at summit racing and missed the deal of the century
they had 3.5 inch pipe in 4 foot sticks for 7 bucks,,,normally 16 bucks
i wanna make a manually activated cutout, sorta like those nice electricones that came out recently
my plan is to find a throttle body from a chevy or something (needs to be big,2.5 inch or so)and hook a cable to it to activate it

I'm going use a cutout too for my 2006 Jetta TDI with a 3" downpipe.. not mechanical though, an electrical one. It's a tad more expensive @ $199 USD shipping included (or $179 USD without the pipe) but I think it'll be worth it in the long run.. it's practically bolt on and ready to go without calibration and without potential leaking issues:
