Title: Kemptville Diesel Engine Mechanic
Post by: quaddogger on March 25, 2007, 07:56:26 pm
Anyone here take the course or know someone who has? I'm thinking of taking it this september. I'd like to get into the field of diesel's. Right now i'm taking marine and small engines which is giving me a very good understanding of the basics of everything. I'd eventually like to work on diesel inboards. However my course consisted of about 1 hour of video watching on diesel's that's it. I already knew everything they said in the movie and found spots where what it was saying was actually wrong.

I've worked through OYAP at a truck and coach placement and that's not for me so no 2 year college courses in that or heavy equipment. Which leaves little else.

Anyone have any input on this course or other possibilities? Thanks for any help.

Jeremy

My cousin took the course.  He said he learned a fair bit, and a lot he didn't know about diesels.  He grew up on a farm so he was fairly mechanically inclined before hand.

Hmm, I'm pretty knowledgable on the basic principles of diesel and how diesel engines and their related systems work, but i want to learn how to tweak and tune them. That must be a huge part of the course i imagine setting up and adjusting engines?

Not really from what he mentioned to me, it is a course geared to getting apprentice diesel mechanics out the door so it isn't going to be for hot rodding.

Well kemptville has 2 different diesel programs the one mentioned and a 2 year course designed for apprentices. I just want to go to the 1 year course. I would have went to Wyotech for their Diesel program but $50,000 american for american residents in tuition is kinda out of my budget lol.

If your going into marine diesel mechanics I dont recommend this course. I've Been thru it and quite frankly its a joke for the most part. Your money is better spent else where.
