I have a G-60 valve cover (powdercoated) on my 1.6TD, so with the switch to an AAZ, I thought of changing the cover to the new engine......NOT !
Does anyone make a nice cast valve cover that will fit this engine? I need extra bling for the car show circuit.
-
I bet sending it out and getting it chromed wouldnt be that expensive and i am really sure they dont make a cast valve cover for the AAZ.
-
I'll def do a powdercoat (possibly chrome) but I sure wish my G60 cover would fit.
-
You might be able to drill and tap the 1.9 head to accept stud for the G60 valve cover.
-
the 1.9 head is wavy so I don't think so, unless my memory went nuts on me again

I had heard that somewhere before, but no confirmation on this.
-
try something new, and have a new cover vacuum-formed out of clear plastic. Then you can cringe while counting how many minutes it takes the oil to properly lubricate the cam lobes after a cold start.

:? shudder..................

You could always have a machine shop custom mill one if you want it bad enough. I'd look for the Al at a scrap place though as the new is very pricy.

Well since no one else asked.... Do you want to sell that valve cover?

Yes I do, once I pull the 1.6. I'll post it on here when the time comes.
-
Has anyone found a nice valve cover for the AAZ yet???
-
I thought I saw one in one of Dave's posts(g60). One of his his nice pictures of goodies. Could be wrong though.
-
i can almost guarantee that you will not find any kind of after market 1.9 valve cover...
-
Looks like I'll just have to chrome it, or powdercoat and use some other blingage. I got this in the mail yesterday. The cover will vent into it with some nice braided lines....

Would anyone know whwew this post/poster is? I cannot find it.

Why dont you take a 1.9 gasket in to a shop and have a flange made...then TIGed to your g60 cover..smooth it all out...machine it flat...and run it.
Maybe too much work..but you would have the only 1.9/g60 valve cover.
-
That's actually a great idea, but the present cover bolts down through the top of the cover. I have heard that the untapped holes are in the gasket surface to bolt down that way, but I haven't looked at that yet. Be assured, I'll do something nice. :D
-
Yeeeehaaaahh !!!! I just got the call. My truck is finally done. I pick it up tomorrow.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
The gasket surface is the same, I bet you could drill and tap the head to fit the G60 cover on and remove the studs on the cam brackets.
-
Gibber's got a TDI cover on his AAZ - sure he won't mind me bigging it up...

Yup. That was the one. My bad. ALH not AAZ.

stewardc,
was that you bidding on that white face cluster on E-bay?
I think your valve cover should be made custom by a cnc milling machine and then have it fully polished! I put a G60 fully polished valve cover on my 1.6 TD caddy and it looks real good!
thanks Duane
-
Yup, that was me.
Here's my G60 cover on my 1.6 before transplant.

so how does it feel going from a 1.6TD to a 1.9TD is there a big noticable difference? I envy you cause i wanna jump to a 1.9TD in my caddy someday!
well did you win that cluster?
thanks Duane
-
Yes, I did win the cluster ($20). :D
The 1.9 is certainly a different beast, though I only have about 100 miles on it yet. It is noisier and has slightly more vibration. The torque is unbelieveable. It will pull as hard in 5th as the 1.6 does in 3rd. Keep in mind that the 1.9 is all new and highly modified (though presently only running 8 psi boost) whereas the 1.6 was worn out.
