Title: Pumping Losses ?
Post by: pernalonga on March 14, 2007, 03:43:16 pm
Hi there,

Is it correct to say : an engine (IDI) that breathes better, takes more energy (pumping loss) in compressing that additional mass of air ??

incorrect.

just means that you can increase the power which takes more energy.  making the engine breathe better could potentially decrease smoke.

That same air is decompressed as the piston goes downward and exerts the same force helping as it did hindering.

Minus frictional and heat losses, of course.
