Allright so my alternator light has been flickering on and off the past week. Gave it a visual inspection and figured the alternator must be on the way out as it has brand new Bosch brushes in it.
Now as of yesterday it decided to stay on for good; good thing our little diesels barely use any power to run so I got a good 50 miles out of it with the light on. Today had some time so I jumped it and got it started. To my amazement, the tensionner pulley is just gone. It looks like the nut securing it to the adjusting bolt t cleanly unthreaded itself. Now I have a dangling tensionning mechanism.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Im not even sure where to look for the pulley and tensionner mechanism. The tensionner was pretty shady too so i'd like to freshen it all up.

Allright I probably wasnt clear
This is what things look like right now. My ETKA is not running right and cant get a parts list to come up. Would anyone be kind enough to help out with parts list for the tensionner and/or a pic of what things should look like?

Good luck finding one of those, your going to have to find a GM belt or similar to fit into the area where the ac drives the alternator. I would suggest trying to pull the ac system and throw it at the neighbor, and install the single drive belt system onto your car.

I don't have any part #s however it does look like the pully's nut was not tightened up enough causing it to come loose and fall off.I've had that same A/C setup before and had no issues with that nut coming loose.

Well you can pay an arm and a leg at the dealer, or get one off an older vw like yours, but why not gut it and save on the weight and the hassle.

i've had my alternator pulley fall off... make a nice clang lol.. it did that because the belt was overtightened!

The pully and spacer should'nt be too hard to come across from the dealer or try the the wreckers for any old diesels that had A/C.

Its not that easy to just remove the compressor as the A/C alt turns at a different speed when compard to the non A/c alt so the Tach would be out to lunch.Also there would be no belt adjustment as the A/C alt is fixed not to mention the A/C alternator is in a different posiotion from non A/C so the belt would hit the timing belt cover if modded.Swaping the A/C alt,bracket don't even go there way too much work.I've wanted to do this before but trust me just put it back together the same way it came apart for much less grief!

Thats my suggestion aswell is to use the non ac bracket, put it back together the right way and call it a day. Perfect time to time your pump because the pump has to come off. I just gave him a basic idea on what to do, he would need to change the pulley on the alternator to make the setup work without AC.
Dude just put a smaller belt in there for now until u find that tensioner, but IMO I would loose the AC system, then u have one belt to change.

True, the A/C pulley is a slightly different size but the error will be small. You could run a skinnier or fatter belt, which will ride higher/lower in the pulley, to compensate.

You could probably use the A/C alternator bracket and tensioner off an Mk1 car as well as a longer non-A/C alternator pulley. The belt does hit the timing cover a bit as it flops around, but you can just run without the cover. The main disadvantage to this is the belt flaps and doesn't last long. A better solution is the Mk1 non-A/C bracket, but those are hard to find.

This thread got o/t pretty quick. Im not going to go into a swap here, all i need is a pulley & tensionner assembly but germanautoparts.com couldnt come up with anything in their computers so i need someone with access to Etka or similar to hook me up 8)

Andrew, if you check my watched topics over on the vortex, there is a guy with a rabbit, here in Iowa, looking to get rid of his AC. If you have a non-AC bracket you might be able to trade for the AC stuff you desire. So you can come down out of the mountains in the summer. :lol:

There is only one kind of bracket for the A2... reguardless of AC.

I have these parts left over from my non-AC conversion... and another spare setup somewhere. Probably put a new bearing in the pully before I removed it too. The dealership wants about $65 for just the pully/bearing. Looks like you lost several piece$$$$.
