Hey gang,
After I toasted the engine in my Caddy last week, I went in search of a replacement engine. Lo and behold, I found the replacement engine...in a very nice looking car.
I have decided not to rip the heart out of my newly acquired Jetta (pics below) and turn that in to my daily driver. I will keep looking for a replacement TD or even better, a TDI to swap in to the Caddy. Meanwhile, it's more fun with TD's.
Let me know what you think!!!!
Yesterday was my perfect chance to give it the once over and try to get her home.
List of fixes:
- The alternator's W-Terminal plug was bent pushing the exposed terminal against the housing...shorting out the alt. FIX: replaced the connector with an insulated one, straightened it out...all better
- Oil pressure gauge/sensor was put on half-a$$ed and was leaking...FIX: take it of, clean it up, and put it on the right way...no leaks.
It still needs some stuff:
- bulbs here and there
- rear passenger door doesn't open from outside
- front passenger tire doesn't like to get over 65 mph. :banghead:
- a good polish and wax job
- a little TLC on the headliner
After the repairs and in between rain storms, I snapped some pics:

Like I said earlier...I think the snowflakes and new hides from the Caddy are going on (likely tonight) and I hope to polish it up this weekend to give that paint a nice shine.

gotta love a deal!
keep that caddy IDI! :)
-
Is that Jetta a genuine factory TD? :P NICE SCORE Mikey!
keep that caddy IDI! :)
I second that!
-
hey mikey....do u go on the vortex too? i just read this post and it seems very familier :P
-
Yeah, I post on the "Dark Side" too...I like to cover my bases.
It's a factory TD. The people I bought it from had it from new and kept good care of it.
I would love to put a TDI in the Caddy just to have fun with the extra power and to have one of the extremely rare!!!!
I think I may have also found another TD to put into the Caddy for local...and for a whopping $300. Damn, I think that horseshoe up my a$$ is starting to hurt. That's the fifth TD engine I have found running in a car for $500 or less!!!!!
I'll post updated pics tomorrow after a thorough cleaning and a bit of polish.

Sweet Turkey Day, Mikey! :D

Mikey
what extra power? don't you mean power deficit? combined with a huge PITA factor for installing and wiring a TDI (especially if it's not the 1st gen engine)
IDI!! hehe..
-
what extra power?
I would have to agree. TDI's won't rev, and can't be made to. IDI is where its at.

Well, it's about 55 out today so I took that opportunity to give it a coat of polish and wax, and snap some new photos.
Let me know what you think:

She will learn to drive on a VW, that I am sure of!!!!

I think the wheels, a good cleaning (inside and out), and some creature comforts (installed the better radio and changer) make all the difference when it comes to something like this!!!

is that a cavalier rack on the trunk??
-
I'm not sure if the rack is OEM or aftermarket. Regardless, it's not causing trouble so it's staying on!!!!
I will see if I can find any part numbers on it.
Mikey
-
It's from a 1990 Corolla.
I had one of those and it had the rack on the trunk.
-
I actually saw three other '80's Jettas with similar racks on them yesterday...I am guess it's OEM of some sort.
