Title: 1990 and up 1.6N/A questions
Post by: jtanguay on February 25, 2007, 12:10:24 pm
Does anyone know if VW started using the turbo heads on N/A's???  If I were to get my head rebuilt on an N/A, would the shop just install cheapie N/A exhaust valves, or brand new TD exhaust valves???

I'm looking at buying another parts car with a rebuilt N/A head, and I'm wondering if it would be a bad idea to use on a turbo car.

Thanks

well there is a bunch of people that have changed from NA to turbo diesel and there engines seem fine. I guess it depends on how hard you are going to push it.

interesting... seems like ETKA is showing the exact same price for both turbo and n/a heads of '92...  i suspect that vw made it easier on themselves by just using one type of head for both vehicles.  less stock maybe?  $684 for cyl head, valves & camshaft!

Similar question, but I've heard that at some point in the lineup years the N/A blocks started getting the cooling jets as well, or at least the little appropriate little chunk of metal to have them fitted in?

Anyone have confirmation of this, and even better know what year that started?

tell you what... once i tear into those two n/a motors in the summer i will tell you if they have the cooling jets, or at least the ability to have them fitted
