Title: cleaning a transmission
Post by: gropar on November 24, 2004, 10:45:53 am
I just bought a tranny and it is quite dirty.

Now, I want to clean it up but I am not shure about what I can and can not do.

Since it is not mounted, I'm afraid to get water, degreaser and dirt in the transmission. I want to clean the outside without damaging the inside. Is there a *right way* to do it?

I also have to add the fifth gear wich I will take from a 4S trans. If anywone has a diagram to help me figure out what is where and where to put it in the new trans, I would greatly appreciate.

You'll want to change all of the seals or oil will drool all over it after it's put back in.

Greeeat !!!

Thank you guys!
This is just more work to do, but I guess it is worth it.

I don't want the ting to be extra clean : just enough to be able to work on it  8) . Should not be to hard!
