Title: Injector leak

Looking for some advice...

My '92 ECO has been leaking a little diesel near the #1 injector for a little while now.  It actually looks like it is bubbling out a little bit from where the injector meets the head.  Not a lot, but if you watch it for a while, you can see it.

Anybody see that before?  Is it possible to leak there, maybe if the heat shield is partially clogged and fuel pressure is backing up through the threads?

I just re-did the return lines just to make sure that wasn't the source of the stray fuel.  It wasn't .:cry:

Does anybody have a good source for pop-tested injectors with GTD nozzles?

Take the injector body out of the head, wire brush the threads, and carefully put a couple of wraps of teflon tape on the threads before replacing into the head. That may help to seal the thread leakage.

Check the vendors section for Giles, he is the guy to talk to. Smog sells GTD nozzles  (at least he did)

If you use teflon tape don't put it close to the first couple of threads. You don't want any of it breaking off an getting into the engine

teflon tape is some pretty cool stuff... i wouldn't worry about getting any in the motor on install... its removal that you need to worry about...  when you remove the injectors start the motor (stop solenoid disconnected of course...) and that should shoot out any debris from the teflon tape.

andy2 used some copper washer's instead of the heat shields  8)  that fixed his improper sealing issue ;)

Be very, very careful removing the injector. You might have a hairline crack in the injector housing/threads on the head and it may crack and break off if you aren't careful

hmmm yea also make sure the motor is at maximum operating temperature too... aluminum is more friendly when warm ;)

andy2 helped me swap my injectors... he did it flawlessly with some pretty stuck injectors...  back and forth is the key... it works the dirt etc loose and sends it up the threads...

spray the injector base with some penetrant... that should help a bit.
