Guys, I wanna see if I can replace my gearbox from my mk3 Golf to a 6 speed box but dont know if this is possible - any ideas if this is possible, if yes then from which donor car and what would be required.
thanks
-
It is possible, and depending on what box you have now you might be able to get a conversion kit that bolts onto the end of the tranny.
-
i dont know what type of gearbox i have but do know i have a aaz engine.
-
I'd recommend putting your money into a slightly different tranny idea, if your main attraction to a 6 speed is just that extra stroke on the stick.
I've found that with higher power diesel engines, the taller the gearing the better. A long ratio trans with a 3.67 ring and pinion mated to a peloquin differential is a really sweet piece of work for a hot diesel engine.

thanks for the advice but you've lost cos i aint that technically minded!
if you can tell me which gearbox's/parts needed and from which car then that would be great.
-
It's all aftermarket.
You can get a 6 speed from a mk4, but you'll have to figure out how to mount it and get the shifter to work etc. It won't be a bolt in

looks like too much hassle for me....but maybe one day

most worthwhile upgrades do require a fair amount of work. The kit is faily straightforward but you need an O2J tranny I think

personally i would love to do it but my old man does the work on my car and if it aint a straight forward job then i'll get an earbashing so dont need the hassle. shame really cos another gear gear would make a difference i think.
