Title: Ruff starting '04 tdi
Post by: Powered by Spearco on January 18, 2007, 09:47:39 am
I dont know if this is anything to be worried about, but when I start my
car in the morning it seems to run ruff and smoke a little bit then clear up.
It's a '04 tdi/PD. It's got 43k miles and has had regular matinance.
It's also been cold, upper 20s to mid 30s F.  I use the recomended synthetic oil for VW. Should I be concerend or is that normal for the start up when cold out.

   Thanks, Josh

i'd say it could be a bad glow plug... or glow plug wiring...

Get a clip-on ammeter to do some checks to see that your glow system is drawing sufficient current. I don't know what the specs are on TDI glows but the book or dealer will tell you. One of my old diesels had an auxillary ammeter in series with the glow bus. It was an easy way to keep an eye on its condition. (you probably don't want to do that to a spiffy '04)
