Title: My first GTD's latest mods (big surprise!)
Post by: MontanaGTD on January 15, 2007, 07:50:20 am
Ok i've been in and out of hospital - just before christmas - so this last week is the first chance i've had to do any more mods to the GTD. So here is what i've done:-

Vortex Centre console - along with Radio relocated into console and 3 gauges where the radio use to sit - oil temp, oil pressure & voltmeter.

boost gauge - not actually fitted it yet, but just waiting for vacuum pipe to show up!

Oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, reverse light switch, water pump, timing belt and OEM clutch. This has taken me all day yesterday to do!

The 1 thing which really surprised me was the new Jetex Air filter - it fits into the std box, but i found a huge plastic trumpet inside the box which was very restrictive, so i binned it when i put the new air filter in - and what a difference! It really pulls hard in 1st and 2nd now!

I've not got an EGT yet (cheapest i can find is £91 on ebay), but i'm going to tweek the fueling a little (not as far as in the guide) as i dont want it to blow up, but just want a little more power to beat the annoying TDCI Fords!

Hey, wow you've done alot of work. Could you take pictures of the dash since the modifications? I'm going to remove that trumpet piece from the airbox too.

I second that, that sounds like free power...! How much was the Jetex filter and can I get one from somewhere that does mail order?  Most motor factors in York don't seem to want to know....
Good work on the dash install btw!  Pics please...
Cheers,
Tom

Oh - some useful information for you!

If you want to fit the genuine VDO 3 gauge pack that you can buy (normally out of audi's and go for stupid money on ebay!) then you need to put a Y-connector into the top of the oilcooler/filter housing. You can buy crappy ones which look aweful - so we used a genuine VAG one from a Polo G40! Its in 2 pieces with 2 metal seals. Cost me £27 from VW main dealer - i'm an OEM whore!

Part numbers are:-

N0138085 - Y-piece to mount seat
030103717 - Y-piece - mount your pressure sensor here
N0138182 - upper seal
031103715 - upper section of Y-piece - where the temp sensor goes

The original sensor that goes here the wire goes onto the top of the pressure sensor as its still OEM wiring - I'll post pics up later to show what I mean!

I was thinking of putting the gauges up high where the stereo is, do you prefer it like that?

It took me a few days to get use to the radio being down there - but now that i'm use to it its loads easier to use!

I'd recommend the relocation!

new arm rest! Fitted this today - its one of them ones of ebay - ok if you have plenty of time to swop the whole seat backs over! i just had to remove the outer plastic on the tilt mechanism to make it fit - and its snug! Ideal for putting all your crap in!

The GTD is looking good. I like the console.

I'm considering getting one of these for the boost gauge

All good info, nice one.  Especially useful is the info about the VDO gauges, there are at least 3 sets in a nearby scrappy....  You can expect an order for a panel filter soon as well!
Cheers,
Tom
