I have a 1.6 TD in my Caddy. Ever sense I have put it in it has been making this ticking noise. My first thought was an exhaust leak but have pretty much ruled that out. Anyone have an idea what it could be. Could i have a bad lifter of two? They are hydraulic do these go bad ?

is this with the stock camplate in the pump?

How is your timing?

hehe probably from lack of oil pressure :) you should install an oil pan baffle!
-
so if i have a lack of oil pressure is that due to a faulty oil pump? What will a windage pan do for oil pressure.

Timing is right on and was just done. Anyone with any ideas?

the windage pan ensures that you have oil in the sump on hard cornering. its also good for a couple HP up top, and is way better than the stock oil pan seal, as it comes with its own rubber seal.
hearing ticking is usually from advanced timing... or worse, lack of oil pressure. i would get a gauge just to be sure though.
-
but then if the oil pressure gets lower, the pressure light should turn on...?!

in a perfect world.. yes.. i have seen way too many of these lights blink when oil pressure was fine, and not flash when there is an issue.
best way to check, is with a gauge.

so where could i get an oil pan baffle for the td engine? all i can find is for the gti...

it will be listed for 1.9TD's but fits the 1.6TD oil pan :) as far as I know you don't need different bolts to hold it in, but I may be wrong...

theres a pic of what it looks like, and the price in CDN. don't know the part # though.

Don't depend on the idiot lights. My glow plug light only works half the time but i know that they are working. I thinks its a grounding ploblem in the dash. So there cold be the same issue with the oil pressure light.

Jtangauy, can't open the page, must have some problem, but thx anyway
Adam84, i honestly think that my light works perfectly well cause when i turn the ignition key, the light turns on, and 2 seconds after i turn the engine on it shuts off, wich means it works with pressure gains :). besides it's a new one that i bought recently.
But i noticed something today. the ticking noise that appears in tight left corners could mean not only low oil pressure but low oil level too... cause i was checking the level and it needed about a liter, and after that , didnt hear anymore tickings. Just a guess, i suppose.

PP sells baffles I think, support the locals :D
I took the time to upload the picture in the link to my photobucket account for you, not sure why you couldn't open it.

Apparntly they are all the same for 8Vs, so I bought one from BFI.. horrible idea. They are a great company with great products, but if you live in Canada you will get screwed over on import fees bad!
-
where's BFI from. Excuse my ignorance but don't know that company. And thx a lot for the image. That will help me a lot to explain in here in portuguese what i really want cause i don't know the transaltion for oil pan baffle ;)
-
it's also called a windage tray. BFI is located in the states. They only ship to North America I think.
