Over the last little while, I had these VDO gauges from an audi coupe just kicking around. so I decided I'd ask about and see if I can get the required parts (sender + oil fitting) to run the gauge.
Finally I managed to get the parts I needed and had installed the parts and the gauge. I notice, when I start the car cold, my oil pressure will hang around 4bar until I warm up, and then after a good long warm up, it will drop down to about 2bar or so.
Now that I know what's happening with my oil (which is nice) I tend to baby my TD as it was purchased new in 91 by my grandparents and will always be babied as the car is in EXCELLENT condition.
Would it be wise to say - to assume that the car is warmed up when the oil pressure works it's way down to 2bar?
I know there was a post a while back regarding oil temperature durring warm and cold starts and such. I just thought people may be able to add to this or relate any information to this

yea the pressure is higher when the viscosity is thicker than when it is lower and thinner. babying your car isn't a bad idea... at least until its warm :twisted:

That is what I figured, as there's the hot and cold weight of oils.
well.. yea.. I always baby it until it's warm.. it's spoiled.... plugged in on cold nights, frequent oil changes. The thing eats better than I do. :wink:
on a side note, a few weeks ago I was at a buddy's shop with a few other vw owners (none of which diesel) but I managed to get a little advice from them. Some of which was to adjust the freeplay on my clutch and adjust my loose throttle linkage.
