hello from Portugal
i bought a MBC to put in my car but the kkk24 as a metal line and i don't know how(on a cheap/ghetto way) to hook up the controller...
i could Skipp the controller... search and saw people just disconnecting the WG and the blow-off valve but wont that put much stress on the engine?
all said is a 1.6 diesel(rebuilt) with 1.6GTD external bits...
i just wanted some more power as i put 15" wheels and it losted the overall performance but don't know how to re-gain hp again...
i have big intercooler on front a removed the center muffler.
temperature is always low(can cruise at 140km/h-straight road-without even go to the middle of the gauge)so i think a little more boost is safe...
what can i do?increase fuel like in french topic and just sell the MBC and unplug the WG and blow off valve?
i will appreciate as much pics as possible as the ones in the archives most are out...
THANK YOU 8)

You should get a exhaust gas temperature guage cause thats the one that tells you if everything is ok or not!!! the coolant temp will not tell you much!!!!
-
i don't know fo anty who disconnected the waste gate, only people who have them stuck shut, like me, if it would work i would use it lol, and if you did block the line it wouldn't really hurt anything, on stock fueling you'd be lucky to see 15psi haha. what you want to do is disable the bov, then the metal line ont he waste gate, cut an inch or so out, then stick hoses over top and host clamp them down, and run the hoses to the boost controller, may i also suggest that you take the adjustment on the wastegate, and adjust it all the way out until the screw gets all loose, then run it in till it first touches then tighten the lock nut. this will give you the most adjustment from low to high, and the lowest egts, get agt gauge though, the water temperature gauge barely means ***... and responds to slow.
-
didnt understand all you said but i dont want to spend more money on egt gauges...
this is a daily driver and i just want to have a bit more power to help push the 15" wheels .
can you have pics with a step by step on modding the kkk24 like you did?
if i can have like 90/100hp without smoke i will be very happy 8)

i doubt you could do it with out any smoke, you could do it with out smoke underboost, i know i am in that range currently. theres not complex about it. on the far left side of the wastegate, the top of the car i would call there, there is a stud with a 3mm allen socket hole, and then a 10 mm lock nut, you'll need a deep well 10mm to loosen the locknut, then use the allen wrench to back out the stud/adjustment. it will get real loose, then adjust it in by hand or by allen wrench if the threads are tight on it, until it touches something, then tighten the 10 mm locknut back up. now your boost is set at 10psi on the boost gauge, which is the lowest you can go. then the metal line that goes to the wastegate cut an inch out of it and push a hose on each end. then run the hoses to the mbc. simple, now you can adjust you boost.
-
it would be hard to get pictures, the wastegate is back behind the motor, it's very simple though...

what do i use to keep the rubber in place?
-
a hose clamp

hello
today i start to increase the performance...
i increase the fuel(+-1500rpm)and went to the WG actuator and put the srew almost to the end.
that should give me a nice amount of boost.
i did the trick of the bolt to block the blow off,put 5the star wheel were lda pin sits 2 turns lower and turn the pin a little.
all that but the boost still wont pass 0.6/0.7 max...
could it be the blowoff still letting boost away?i put the bolt in and torqued but i didnt toque until it wont go more because i thought t could do something bad...should i toque it to the point i can go more(or close?)
if not what could cause only 0.6 pressure?bad lda pin orientation?should i put the starwheel in stock form?
i feel a nice kick in the but as soon the kkk24 spools but it peaks at 0.6 and the fun is over... :?
-
which way did you turn the screw on the wg? if you turned it ccw, then you loosened it for less boost, which is how i explained it for when you install a boost controller. you should not adjust boost with that screw as it causes a restriction and increases exhaust gas temperatures. you want to loosen it like i said then install a boost controller on the metal line.
-
the mbc works better on the garrets
you have to adjust the 3mm allen screw in for more boost
you can get it to a point where its turned in(screw),and you can use the mbc to sorta control the rate of how fast the turbo reaches max boost
but the boost is more or less adjusted by the 3mm allen
-
the Allen pin is almost all in.
i did this and not installed the MBC as the hose that fits the MB exists is too much big to fit the turbo line...
i am going to try to torque the blow off a little more as it could be jammed to an open position and i stop torquing with it still open.
another thing...
should i put the star-wheel on stock position or let it sit the way it is now/turn it more?and the pin?
its doesnt have much angle...should i grind it?
what does in fueling/boost the adjustment of the pin?the aggressive side is faced to the driver side right?
sorry for all the questions but i think the pin adjustment and star wheel are a bit confusion and not accessible easy...
-
ok, this morning i torqued a little more on the blow off and went for a try.still 0.6/0.7bar...
do the broom stick trick and still 0.7 so i think the problem is not on the blow off...
the car does some smog but nothing crazy but i think it as fuel enough to pass 1 bar...
i feel the power as soon the boost kicks in but then it flats out...
any help?
edit:should i try to plug the line that goes from de turbo to the waste gate?
-
yea seriously...
just go buy the $80 dollar part and have some peace of mind knowing what is going on inside your motor.
15 psi boost is about as much as you want to run without an intercooler. You can do around 20 psi with an intercooler. you might even just want to increase the fueling and watch the black smoke out your tailpipe. afterall you're just trying to push 15 inch wheels right? you dont really want performance? 90-100hp with an intercooler is very realistic :)
Either way, get an EGT gauge, or a bigger downpipe, as it will help :)
-
i have big intercooler on front
as for fuel i dont see that much smoke...i have seen stock cars smoking a lot more than i do now...it only smokes at very low rpm(1500rpm with WOT) but then the turbo stops at 0.6 bar.thats stock pressure...
i cant buy a 80dolar EGT because i am in portugal, shipping and customs will raise that value to almost is double...
i just want to know how can i raise more the boost and get more kick past 3500 because after that rpm it feels like stock...
another thing.if i raise the starwheel on lda could i add more fuel without more smoke?or down with fuel and more on the starwheel?
-
You hitting fuel cut off after 3500 RPM, thats why it feels like stock..... You need to do the govenor mod and also for shipping, you can get around that by asking them to send the item as a gift, tell that the payment for the item is only 10$. Tell them to sned it as a book or soemthing like that, the first few ways will work well the last one is a maybe........
-
well i thought that even without governor mod i could add more fuel on top range...the pin is number 51.
this is a daily car, wont cruise at high speed and wont to racing or whatever with, and cant spend more money with it as i have a on going project that takes all the money and i need to finish it(golf G60).
the problem here is that i cant pass 0.6 bar not the how much fuel i can inject safely...i believe if the pressure would raise above 0.6 bar the power will increase too as the lda will kick in for more fuel... i think
-
You need to concnetrate on a few things: Blocking off the Blowoff on the intake, search for broom stick Mod :D
Next is to adjust the Wastegate by either cutting and crushing the wastegate line and control how much boost with your foot. Or splice a control valve and run either stock or full boost or in between.
Run straight pipe by removing your muffler, Turbo is a nice silencer, lol I love I tractor sound but anyways but it's not crazy loud like the cummins diesels.
For Fueling either turn up the max fuel pin, until you see some darkness is spreading out the tail pipe (this is the fun power mode)
Or do the Govenor mod which helps every where on the power band, including just crusing or take off.
GET and EGT Gauge, if your funding a G60 you prob know why it's important to keep EGT's in check, this is espeically true on Diesels, because they are controlled by the input of fuel from the IP, and too much fuel means hot ass pistons and Turbo Fins ( IE grenade of turbo and then the motor)
Other than that you may have more fun with you diesel than you G60 based on the cheap mods and tricks to get her going quick.......
-
i have done the block off .
my project is not G60 based, its a true GTI G60 which i am going to raise to 2.0cc 9:1cr among other things....hardly the gtd will be that fun lol.
on topic again...
i went and removed the bolt that holds the pipe from the turbo to the WG trying to find one that was solid to completely block the line didn't find one at the moment so i take aside to tomorrow my wife try to find one at work. went for a drive without the bolt and bam...1.4 bar
now i am confused...
on other side...is it safe for the head to run 1.4 max without fuel to mach?
or is it doing 1.4 bar because it has fuel enough to do that?
how can i get the boost to be more constant?it keeps raising to 1.4 as the rpm raise too... i would like to have 1.4 bar but from 3000 to red line...is it possible?
thanks for all the help.
for the times this questions appear it would be nice to have a sticky with all the mods to the 1.6gtd and with photos...
if i knew how to tune the gtd i would be happy to do a post to be a sticky 8)
-
some parts for you are very expensive but for us are very cheap...golf II in portugal were almost 1.3 and gtdīs.there are plenty of those parts on scrap yards.
now my smog is nearly visible and you are tell me that without an EGT gauge my engine can melt...
sorry if my words can leave to understand other things but i haven't touch the fuel screw that much and my car does almost no smoke...i think with the kind of use i have i wont damage the engine...not sure about running 1.4bar,could it damage something?
out here diesel tuning is not as advance as you are usually is just intercooler ,turbo pressure and the max fuel all the way down. nothing more. black clouds are ridiculous black and never heard someone melting a piston... :?
