Maybe this is normal, I'm not sure but I used to love the smell of my 1.6NA's exhaust. It didn't bother me at all. Now my 1.6TD really smells bad, It kind of smells acidic? It makes my eyes water even. I'm just guessing here but maybe it is a high NOx output?
Is it normal for 1.6TDs to smell bad? I know it's not the fuel, I've refilled 3 times to far and it's always the same

I've actually noticed this exact same difference between my TD and my D... don't know what it is. It only bugs me though cause the fumes are coming in the car when the windows open since theres a huge crack in the pipe, but other than that, it doesnt bother me.

My cat's breath smells like cat food.
Stinkiest exaust I ever had was when I ran it on fish oil. Yuck!
-
Maybe try filling up somewhere else? It might be the gas station's fuel.

same thing, my exhaust c-clamps aren't strong enough and when I rev the engine the manifold lifts off the DP. Smells great
I've tried a few differant gas stations, it's all the same. It's nice to know that it's normal for my car to stink though

You ran your cat on fish oil? He must have loved that

people always say things to me about stinky diesels, but i don't get i think diesels smell like flowers compared to a gasoline cars exhaust. diesels just smell sooty but gas cars smell horrible, i hate getting behind an old van or something that stinks like ass, temps me to pass them and soot them out
-
I agree old gassers smell like ass. At least a bagged diesel can burn off the oil it's using and turn it into forward locomotion.
-
Run it on cooking oil like me, smells of chips

hi
if your exhaust is smelling acidic then your pump/engine timing
is def wrong.
pls verify your camshaft timing and pump inj timing.
it is imperative that these are set right.
pump timing should be set to .95mm - 1.00mm
hope this helps
