Post by: SMOKEYDUB on November 12, 2006, 12:37:34 pm
Ok well my battery died in my 95 passat idi, now the stereo is in safe mode. Can i get the stereo out of safe mode? Anything easy i can do or should i just dump in an aftermarket one?

If  you have the code there is a procedure for unlocking the radio.  Even if you don't have the code phone up the dealer and they should be able able to give it to you if it is the original radio in the car.  They just need your VIN.  Is it a heidelberg?
I found this info on it.

Hope this helps.

I had the same radio de death mode...

Contact the VW dealer and they can open the radio up and pull out the code......

This is what I was told, maybe if you show me the radio I could pull the radio apart, and take the code to them., they may charge for the labour of getting to the code....

I just picked up a used stereo from a 99 VW (or so the serial # tells me when i search it in google) at a local thrift store (where they take donations and resell them to help the needy) and can't get it out of safe mode. I called the dealer and they won't tell me anything unless I have the VIN and registration of the vehicle it came from, claiming that it also might be too old for them to be able to get at all. I'm going to post a message on the bulletin board at the place I got it from and hope the previous owner sees it and helps me out.
